Our Welfare Officer, Robyn Elizabeth, took to the campus to explore what feminism means to students at Wigan & Leigh College. This is what she found: "I approached random groups of students in the college and instigated a discussion on feminism, I then sat back and took notes as the conversation between the students took place. I maintained a neutral role on the subject; asking only for the students opinions and views, and with their permission, I have have taken some key quotes of there conversations and placed them here. I will not tell you who each statement came from, I will not tell you if they were female or male. Because in the grand scheme of things; that doesn't matter. This campaign, this project, is embracing equality. So I don't want to single out certain genders, on either positive or negative opinions of Feminism.

Here are some of the main key quotes said by some of the students of Wigan & Leigh College:

As you can see, there is a wide range of opinions on the subject by the students of Wigan & Leigh college. On more than one occasion though, far too many I must say: I found that most students I asked had never even heard of the word feminism before. Whilst another large majority of students had learned about feminism on the internet, through social sites. It is an issue that students need to be educated properly about, in my role as teacher in training at the college I have brought up the topic of Feminism in art as my students and I had previously discussed the Feminist movement which many artists were a part of. I'm unaware of the subject being integrated or not into other types of courses, it is an issue that teachers should consider including in their sessions: it played a huge role in history, especially for women and is a fantastic and inspiring movement that students should be taught of. Feminism is an embrace of equality, ensuring that both woman and man are treated equally in all areas of life in British society.
