Our Students' Union and Wigan Youth Cabinet partnered ahead of the General Election to provide an opportunity for young people to engage in their future and question our local party candidates.

The Saidy Theatre provided it's multi-functional performance space for our guests. We received welcome speeches from Teresa Farran Vice Principal and Mahtab Ghadri President of the Students' Union.

In the "hot seats" were Labour councillor Terry Halliwell, Conservative Councillor James Grundy, Green Party Parliamentary candidate Will Patterson, Lib-dem candidate John Shipworth and UKIP candidate Les Legget.

Oliver Parke our Equality and Diversity Officer and Rory Gilmore from The Youth Cabinet chaired the event. And our Student audience included young people from Winstanley, Wigan Youth Zone, St. John Rigby and other local Schools.

The topics discussed were; Immigration, Economy, NHS & Education. Young people prepared questions before the event and also questions were opened out to the audience. It was an amazing and informative opportunity.

Despite the media portraying our Young people as disengaged from modern politics, we found our students' were well informed and passionate.
