Go Green Week...

All across Campus, both students and staff celebrated ‘People and Planets’ Go Green Week. Wigan and Leigh Students’ Union put together their own schedule of events that included mini-film screenings, upcycling workshops, and an informative guest speaker who delivered a talk on 1 million climate jobs.

We also made history and held our first ever sustainability committee meeting, listened to our Green Dragon’s Den business pitches alongside a fantastic mini upycled fashion exhibition and handed out fairtrade hot chocolate, spiced apple juice and showcased the marvellous design plans for our new ‘Student Eats’ Edible garden.

Did you know that Pagefield is home to the fantastic S.T.A.R. Centre (Sustainable Technologies And Renewables)?

Also, staff and students spent the week showing the love with a fantastic campaign called “For the Love Of.” We shared with one another what we loved, and in turn reflected how these will be affected by climate change. Please look at our little video.

One student said her favourite part of the week was “making arts and crafts through upcycling” and said “It shows how much you can recycle and make good things”

When asked how getting involved had made them think differently towards the environment they responded “we can save the world by not using a plastic bag” and the best thing about the day was “getting a free canvas shopping bag”!
