Upcycled Fashion
Level 3 Fashion – Upcycled Fashion
Amount awarded: £1,000
Our Year 2 Fashion Students have been awarded money to enhance their first Design Assignment, working in partnership with local charity shops to transform garments into contemporary fashion items.
They hope to use the project to engage and educate the wider student community in order to:
1. Generate a greater understanding of sustainability
It is hoped that by embedding sustainability this into the students course and their general College life, this greater understanding may also spread into their life outside of College too. Students may feel encouraged to influence changes in regard to sustainability issues that may affect them in the future and change their behaviour.
2. To support local charity shops and build relationships within the community
To raise the students’ awareness of the potential of buying garments at a reduced
cost from Charity shops and for them to use their imagination to create individual
one-off garments even after the project is over and give the students a better
understanding of why it is important to support Charity shops for the causes they
raise money for.
3. To raise the students awareness of the Students Union & promote positive change
By being involved with the Smart Green Scheme, it will make the students more
aware of the Students’ Union and because of this, it may make the students feel
more confident to become involved in the organisation and voice their opinions,
therefore leading to creative and positive change for themselves, the group as a
whole, the College and the local community.
Keep your eyes peeled for updates from what the students in this project are getting up to via our BLOG!
